Internet, I am now a full blooded Minnesota Hockey Mom. Why, you ask? Well, because in the span of the last 48 hours:

  • we have attended no less than 2 hockey games and hockey practices. Not to mention hockey pictures. Hockey rules our weekends now. Enough said.
  • took Chloe to her ice skating lessons and wondered why it was so warm in the arena until I realized I am now thoroughly used to the cold ice rinks and Frozen Butt Syndrome has taken effect.
  • took the girls to the gym this morning in sub-zero temperatures and told the girls that it is “chilly”out and they need to throw on a hat and eh, maybe some gloves. (Sub-Zero temps are chilly)
  • remarked that there were only a handful of fish houses on our lake this weekend. Remarked that I thought it was odd there weren’t more instead of “WTF are those port-a-potties on our lake for?” (Ya, I thought that originally when we moved here in 1999!)
  • daydreamed about my new car (Chevy Traverse) that I am getting later this winter/spring and how wonderful it will be to have a third row so we can throw the hockey stuff AND separate the girls on our trips to the ice rinks. Man can they get testy on long car rides. (The girls, not the hockey stuff–although that stuff stinks!)
  • took the girls to a BAR on Saturday night. Okay, well, not really. We went to Carbones in Rosemount. Why? Well, a few reasons. First, Jason was there helping out with the MEAT RAFFLE. And second, we were hungry.
  • what is a Meat Raffle you ask? Ya. That. In Minnesota (or perhaps in the mid-west too. I don’t know, I’ve never heard of it before until we moved here). People raffle off meat. In this case, our hockey assocation raffles off meat. Like, real meat. In packages. To a very crazy crowd filled with tons of meat-crazy raffle ticket buyers. We didn’t win any meat. This time. :)
  • bought my first pull tabs. At Carbones. This will be a problem I foresee. I am a reformed scratch off lottery ticket fan and these are way more fun than scratch offs. The proceeds go to the hockey association so I will feel less guilty, I am sure.

I think it’s great we are involved in hockey. I think it’s hysterical that hockey has introduced me to meat raffles and pull tabs. I LOVE MINNESOTA.

:)
